This project from Winter 2020, was done in partnership with one of Toronto’s largest museums. The goal of the project was to explore the museum’s collection digitization and online upload process and to highlight opportunities for improvement. We spent time at the institution, interviewing and conducting observations with employees and analyzing process documents. From our research, we were able to develop an understanding of the current digitization process and uncover pain points in the system. We created a Journey Map to show the current process. We studied how other museums make collections available online and what services offer support to help facilitate the process and were able to present museum staff with a potential Future State Map which streamlined the process.

This project from Winter 2019, was done in partnership with the University of Toronto’s Education Technology Office team and the Academic & Campus Events (ACE) team. Through interviews with professors and in-class observational research, we explored the needs, expectations, and challenges for professors using Technology Enhanced Active Learning (TEAL) classrooms in the newly built Myhal building. We created a Journey Map of the complete current experience using the classrooms, as well as a Future State Map showing potential improvements to the service end-to-end. Additionally, we redesigned the classroom podium User Interface.

This project was created as coursework for The Digital Museum in the winter of 2019. The course was facilitated in partnership with one of the major museums in Toronto, and this project was presented to representatives from that museum.

Bugdemic, based on the boardgames Pandemic, was designed for a digital, multi-touch table screen, or, alternatively, as a physical manipulative game using RFID chips. This fun game was designed to teach children, families and school groups about the importance of insects within ecosystems, the threats to these insects and ways to protect them.

For this project from Spring 2018, we wanted to improve upon the GreenP parking app by redeveloping the app for CarPlay. Additionally, we wanted to add geolocation services that allow users to navigate to parking, view availability, pricing and to complete payment seamlessly upon arrival. We began the project with a list of Business Assumptions, User Assumptions, Hypothesis Statements and with a Proto-Persona. Next, we began making Low-Fidelity Interface Sketches, Mid-Fi and Hi-Fi Prototype Storyboards of the User Experience, getting feedback from users at each stage of the process.

For this project from Winter 2018, we wanted to explore designing a podcast app for mobile that includes the best elements from existing podcast apps, gives users a more customizable experience, and eliminates pain points. For this project each team member evaluated a podcast app, we conducted Contextual Inquiry with participants and analyzed the results through Affinity Diagrams, Work Models, and Thematic Analysis. Additionally, we conducted Participatory Design and Card Sort sessions and analysis. Finally, we created Wireframes and High Fidelity interface designs based on our research and tested them in Focus Groups and Pilot A/B Testing sessions.

For this project from Winter 2018, we decided to create a desktop application for a small business owner who converts videotapes to digital formats. We designed for macOS and used a Lean UX approach to develop application features and received feedback from users for our low and mid-fidelity prototypes. We began the project by exploring Business Assumptions, User Assumptions, Hypothesis Statements and by creating a Proto-Persona for our fictional business owner.

For this project from Fall 2017, we wanted to improve upon the Information Architecture of a popular website. We chose to explore the complex navigational structure and “Symptom Checker tool on WebMD. We began the project by conducting Content Analysis, next we conducted participant Observations, Semi-Structured Interviews, and Card Sorts. Based on our research we created a new Information Architecture Schematic Diagram, Wireframe sketches, and then a Clickable Medium Fidelity Prototype.
